The Four Components of Mentoring Pairs for Child Care

Mentoring Pairs for Child Care (MPCC) is a year-long training and mentoring strategy designed to pair more experienced child care supervisors with less experienced child care supervisors. Together, the mentoring pair will participate in the program, which has the following four components.

  1. Concepts of Early Learning and Child Care Video Series
Mentoring pairs will watch a one-hour monthly virtual training session, at a time that is convenient to them, to set the framework for the collaborative month of learning. These videos are related to the following topics and issues:
    • College of Early Childhood Educators Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice
    • Communication and Connection
    • Ethical and Reflective Practice
    • Mentoring and Facilitation Practices
    • Leadership
    • Pedagogical Practices

    • Holistic View of Child
    • Building Family and Community Connections and Relationships
    • Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity
    • Issues and Trends in Early Learning and Child Care

  2. Bridging Theory to Practice Virtual Study Group
Mentoring pairs will engage with other mentoring pairs in an hour and a half virtual meeting where they will dialogue about the training, reflect on the content of the video series and support one another in considering how the training may be applied to their daily practice.

  3. Mentoring Pairs Connections
Mentoring pairs will develop a common project goal or action items and will meet with one another through onsite visits, zoom calls, emails to support one another with the desired projects for 4 hours each month.

  4. Pair Sharing Conversations
Mentoring pairs will come back together for the Pair Sharing Conversations with other mentoring pairs for one and a half hours at the end of each month to join in a virtual gathering to explore theory and engage in dialogue.
